OPA is extremely pleased to have secured the planning permission for a circa-200-acre solar farm and battery storage system. The scheme will provide enough electricity for over 19,000 homes each year and incorporates a Biodiversity Net Gain over 70%, including features such as over 4km of new hedgerow, a community orchard, wildflower meadows, wildlife boxes and beehives (in partnership with the Good Bee Company).
Over £250,000 will be invested in green infrastructure on the site, including :
enhanced public rights of way and over 3.6 km of permissive paths
visitor car park with EV charging
outdoor picnic areas, an outdoor classroom, and information boards
There will also be Meaningful benefits for residents including a £680,000 community fund, paid as £17,000 per year over the 40- year life of the project.
The land will be retained for agricultural use and the landowner plans to graze sheep on it. The site will continue to be used for sheep farming, which will help the topsoil to recover.
OPA can't wait to take the dog for a walk around the new permissive footpaths and pick some fruit from the community orchard!
