Rigmuir Wind farm is located on the outskirts of Glasgow, positioned on a closed Landfill site owned and operated by Viridor. This project demonstrates Viridor's commitment to renewable energy and helps to maintain its position as the country's largest independent generator of electricity from waste.
This is the first wind farm that OPA worked on providing planning support for Clean Earth Energy Limited, helping them secure full planning permission. Clean Earth now intends to build out this project with an aim of energising before the end of 2024.
This was a really challenging project however the team were determined to overcome issues associated with historic landfill sites and carry out extensive consultation with nearby airports to overcome aviation issues.
It's been a real pleasure to work alongside the passionate and professional team at Clean Earth again and assist them in delivering their largest wind project to date.
Each turbine is expected to generate approx 14GWh per annum providing power for around 11500 South Lanarkshire homes and will provide a variety of ecological enhancements to further complement the restoration work already planned for this historic landfill site.
